THE MESSAGE
God 's Word came to me, saying, "You, son of man— God , the Master, has this Message for the land of Israel: "‘Endtime. The end of business as usual for everyone. It's all over. The end is upon you. I've launched my anger against you. I've issued my verdict on the way you live. I'll make you pay for your disgusting obscenities. I won't look the other way, I won't feel sorry for you. I'll make you pay for the way you've lived: Your disgusting obscenities will boomerang on you, and you'll realize that I am God .'

Contextual Overview

1 Again the Lord spoke his word to me, saying: 2 "Human, the Lord God says this to the land of Israel: An end! The end has come on the four corners of the land. 3 Now the end has come for you, and I will send my anger against you. I will judge you for the way you have lived, and I will make you pay for all your actions that I hate. 4 I will have no pity on you; I will not hold back punishment from you. Instead, I will make you pay for the way you have lived and for your actions that I hate. Then you will know that I am the Lord . 5 "This is what the Lord God says: Disaster on top of disaster is coming. 6 The end has come! The end has come! It has stirred itself up against you! Look! It has come! 7 Disaster has come for you who live in the land! The time has come; the day of confusion is near. There will be no happy shouting on the mountains. 8 Soon I will pour out my anger against you; I will carry out my anger against you. I will judge you for the way you have lived and will make you pay for everything you have done that I hate. 9 I will show no pity, and I will not hold back punishment. I will pay you back for the way you have lived and the things you have done that I hate. Then you will know that I am the Lord who punishes. 10 "Look, the day is here. It has come. Disaster has come, violence has grown, and there is more pride than ever.

Gill's Notes on the Bible

Moreover the word of the Lord came unto me, saying. Or again, as the Arabic version; for this is a distinct prophecy from the former; though of the same kind with it; and was delivered out, either immediately upon the former; or, however, some time between that and the following in the next chapter, which has a date to it. The Targum calls it the word of prophecy from the Lord.

Barnes' Notes on the Bible

A dirge. Supposing the date of the prophecy to be the same as that of the preceding, there were now but four, or perhaps three, years to the final overthrow of the kingdom of Judah by Nebuchadnezzar.

Clarke's Notes on the Bible

CHAPTER VII

This chapter, which also forms a distinct prophecy, foretells

the dreadful destruction of the land of Israel, or Judah, (for

after the captivity of the ten tribes these terms are often

used indiscriminately for the Jews in general,) on account of

the heinous sins of its inhabitants, 1-15;

and the great distress of the small remnant that should escape,

16-19.

The temple itself, which they had polluted with idolatry, is

devoted to destruction, 20-22;

and the prophet is directed to make a chain, as a type of that

captivity, in which both king and people should be led in bonds

to Babylon, 23-27.

The whole chapter abounds in bold and beautiful figures, flowing

in an easy and forcible language.
