God 's Message came to me: "Son of man, confront Mount Seir. Prophesy against it! Tell them, ‘ God , the Master, says: "‘I'm coming down hard on you, Mount Seir. I'm stepping in and turning you to a pile of rubble. I'll reduce your towns to piles of rocks. There'll be nothing left of you. Then you'll realize that I am God .

Contextual Overview

1 The word of the Lord came to me: 2 "Son of man, turn toward Mount Seir, and prophesy against it. 3 Say to it, ‘This is what the sovereign Lord says: "‘Look, I am against you, Mount Seir; I will stretch out my hand against you and turn you into a desolate ruin. 4 I will lay waste your cities; and you will become desolate. Then you will know that I am the Lord ! 5 "‘You have shown unrelenting hostility and poured the people of Israel onto the blades of a sword at the time of their calamity, at the time of their final punishment. 6 Therefore, as surely as I live, declares the sovereign Lord , I will subject you to bloodshed, and bloodshed will pursue you. Since you did not hate bloodshed, bloodshed will pursue you. 7 I will turn Mount Seir into a desolate ruin; I will cut off from it the one who passes through or returns. 8 I will fill its mountains with its dead; on your hills and in your valleys and in all your ravines, those killed by the sword will fall. 9 I will turn you into a perpetual desolation, and your cities will not be inhabited. Then you will know that I am the Lord .

Gill's Notes on the Bible

Moreover the word of the Lord came unto me,.... After the prophecy concerning the shepherds of Israel, and the goats of the flock, and of their oppressions of the sheep and lambs, the weak of the flock; and concerning the Messiah, and the blessings of grace promised the church in the latter day; came another concerning the destruction of her enemies, under the name of Seir or Edom:

saying: as follows:

Barnes' Notes on the Bible

In Ezek. 35–36 we see the devastation of Edom, and the restoration of Israel. Edom was included among the nations against which Ezekiel prophesied Ezekiel 25:12-14. But its fuller doom was reserved for this place, because Edom was one of the surrounding nations that profited at first by Judah’s fall, and because it helps by way of contrast to bring out in a marked way the better future designed for Israel. Edom is the God-hating, God-opposing power, ever distinguished for its bitter hatred against Israel; and so the ruin of Edom is the triumph of Israel in the power of God.

Clarke's Notes on the Bible

CHAPTER XXXV

The prophet having formerly predicted the ruin of Edom, the

same with Seir, (Ezekiel 25:12,)

now resumes and pursues the subject at greater length,

intimating, as did also Isaiah, (Isaiah 21:11-12,)

that though other nations should recover their liberty after

the fall of the Babylonian monarchy, the Edomites should

continue in bondage for their very despiteful behaviour towards

the children of Israel in the day of their calamity, 1-15.
