Clarke supone que se refiere a las mujeres en general. Verso 11. Aun así sus esposas deben ser serias... Creo que el apóstol no se refiere aquí a las esposas de los obispos o diáconos en particular, sino a las mujeres cristianas en general. El original es simplemente: γυναικας ωσαυτως σεμνας. Que las mujeres sean igualmente serias . Todo lo que se habla aquí se convierte en mujeres en general; pero si el apóstol tenía en sus ojos a las llamadas diaconisas , lo cual es muy posible, las palabras son especialmente apropiadas para ellas . Que hubo tal orden en la Iglesia apostólica y primitiva, y que fueron designados para su oficio por imposición de manos, ya se ha notado en Romanos 16:1 . Fiel en todas las cosas... Las diaconisas tenían mucho que hacer entre los pobres, y especialmente entre las mujeres pobres, en la distribución de la generosidad de la Iglesia. No solo debían gastar fielmente todo lo que tenían, y para el propósito para el cual lo obtuvieron; sino debían hacerlo con imparcialidad , sin hacer acepción de personas , siendo el grado de angustia la única regla por la cual se regularía la distribución.
