Contextual Overview

10 Then he made a table of acacia wood, two cubits long, one cubit wide, and one and a half cubits tall. 11 He covered it with pure gold and made a gold piece around it. 12 He made a piece around it as wide as a hand. And he put gold on the side of this piece all around. 13 He made four rings of gold for it. He put them on the four corners that were on the table's four legs. 14 The rings were close to the sides, to hold the long pieces of wood used to carry the table. 15 He made the long pieces of acacia wood and covered them with gold. The table was carried with these. 16 He made of pure gold its plates, its pots and its jars, for pouring gifts of drink. 17 Then he made the lamp-stand of pure gold and the base of the lamp-stand of beaten gold. Its cups, its buds and its flowers were all made of one piece with it. 18 Six branches went out of its sides, three branches of the lamp-stand out of one side, and three branches out of its other side. 19 Three cups were made to look like almond flowers, each with bud and flower, on one branch, and three on the next branch. This was done for all six branches going out of the lamp-stand.

Exodus 25:23-30, Exodus 35:13, Exodus 40:4, Exodus 40:22, Exodus 40:23, Ezekiel 40:39-42, Malachi 1:12, John 1:14, John 1:16, Colossians 1:27, Nothing but the ark of the covenant, with the mercy-seat, was put within the most holy place; but without the vail this "table of shittim wood" was fixed, of the same height as the ark, but neither so long nor so broad. It was made of the same materials as the ark, and with a golden cornice; but it had also another cornice below the edge, and one at the bottom, with a border between the two of a hand breadth; though some think one border only was below the edge, and that this was towards the bottom, to keep the feet or legs more closely united. The table also had rings and staves for the convenience of removing it. To it were annexed several vessels; as dishes, in which some think the shewbread was placed; or, according to others, the flour of which it was made, or the oil used for various purposes; spoons, which were employed about the incense offered on the golden altar, or carried within the vail in a censer on the day of atonement. Some have supposed the word to denote vials, as we read of vials full of odours and incense - Revelation 5:3: covers, which seem to have been put over both the loaves and the incense, yet some suppose they were vessels used in drink-offerings; but that is more reasonably considered as the use of the bowls.
