THE MESSAGE
God 's Word came to me, saying, "You, son of man— God , the Master, has this Message for the land of Israel: "‘Endtime. The end of business as usual for everyone. It's all over. The end is upon you. I've launched my anger against you. I've issued my verdict on the way you live. I'll make you pay for your disgusting obscenities. I won't look the other way, I won't feel sorry for you. I'll make you pay for the way you've lived: Your disgusting obscenities will boomerang on you, and you'll realize that I am God .'

Contextual Overview

1 The Word of the Lord came to me saying, 2 "Son of man, this is what the Lord God says to the land of Israel: ‘The end! The end has come upon the four corners of the land. 3 Now the end is upon you. I will send My anger against you and punish you because of your ways. I will make you pay for all your sinful actions. 4 My eye will have no pity on you. And I will not let you go without punishment. I will punish you for your ways, and for the hated sins that are among you. Then you will know that I am the Lord!' 5 "The Lord God says, ‘See, much trouble is coming! 6 An end has come! The end has come! It has come up against you. See, it has come! 7 Your punishment has come upon you, O you who live in the land. The time has come. The day is near. The sound of trouble and not of joy is upon the mountains. 8 Now I will soon pour out My anger upon you. I will send My anger against you. I will punish you for your ways and for the hated sins that are among you. 9 My eye will show no pity, and I will not let you go without punishment. I will make you pay for your ways, and for the hated sins that are among you. Then you will know that it is I, the Lord, Who punishes you. 10 ‘See, the day! See, it is coming! The time for your punishment has come. The power against you has started to grow. Pride has begun to grow.

Gill's Notes on the Bible

Moreover the word of the Lord came unto me, saying. Or again, as the Arabic version; for this is a distinct prophecy from the former; though of the same kind with it; and was delivered out, either immediately upon the former; or, however, some time between that and the following in the next chapter, which has a date to it. The Targum calls it the word of prophecy from the Lord.

Barnes' Notes on the Bible

A dirge. Supposing the date of the prophecy to be the same as that of the preceding, there were now but four, or perhaps three, years to the final overthrow of the kingdom of Judah by Nebuchadnezzar.

Clarke's Notes on the Bible

CHAPTER VII

This chapter, which also forms a distinct prophecy, foretells

the dreadful destruction of the land of Israel, or Judah, (for

after the captivity of the ten tribes these terms are often

used indiscriminately for the Jews in general,) on account of

the heinous sins of its inhabitants, 1-15;

and the great distress of the small remnant that should escape,

16-19.

The temple itself, which they had polluted with idolatry, is

devoted to destruction, 20-22;

and the prophet is directed to make a chain, as a type of that

captivity, in which both king and people should be led in bonds

to Babylon, 23-27.

The whole chapter abounds in bold and beautiful figures, flowing

in an easy and forcible language.
