Contextual Overview

5 Then my God put it into my heart to gather together the rulers, the leaders and the people to have their names written down by families. And I found the book of the family names of those who came up first. This is what I found written in it: 6 These are the people who left the land of Babylon and returned to Jerusalem and Judah, each to his own city. Their families had been taken away to Babylon by Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon. 7 These people returned with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, and Baanah. The number of the men of Israel: 8 2,172 sons of Parosh, 9 372 sons of Shephatiah, 10 652 sons of Arah, 11 2,818 sons of Pahath-moab, of the sons of Jeshua and Joab, 12 1,254 sons of Elam, 13 845 sons of Zattu, 14 760 sons of Zaccai,
