10The governor raised an eyebrow and motioned for Paul to rise and speak. Paul said, "Your reputation precedes you, sir. I asked to come here and present my case to you because I know for a fact you have been impartial in Jewish affairs before.
11It is no secret I arrived in Jerusalem about twelve days ago. I merely went to the main church to worship as I have done my whole life.
12These people talk about facts, but none of them can produce a shred of evidence that I was inciting a riot or riling anyone up. I didn't do anything wrong in a church building or even a street corner.
13They have nothing but words as proof of their accusations."
14Paul continued, "But I stand here today and tell you plainly that I am a cowboy riding for the Way. They call it a cult, but it is the furthest thing from it. I worship the same God they do and believe everything in the Code and what the prophets said.
15My accusers and I both share the hope that God will raise the dead . . . the good, the bad, and the ugly.
16Because of this, I watch everything I say and do. My conscience is absolutely clear before God and man.
17"I had been away for a couple of years and just returned with money to help my people and to offer sacrifices to God.
18They did find me in the main church as they said, but all I was doing was completing a purification ceremony. No one was around me, and there was certainly no riot.
19But here's what really happened, some Jews from the province of Asia saw me there. And might I add, they should be the ones here making the accusations, not these folks.

And they neither found me in the temple disputing with any man,.... Either about civil or religious affairs: not that it was criminal to dispute in the temple; it was a common thing for the doctors to dispute about matters of religion, in the porches, and courts, and chambers of the temple, as it may be observed they often did with Christ; but the apostle mentions this to show, that he was so far from moving sedition among the people of the Jews, that he never so much as entered into any conversation with them, upon any subject whatever: true indeed, he was in the temple, and was found there, but not disputing with any, but purifying himself according to the law of Moses:
neither raising up the people; stirring them up to sedition, and tumult, to rebel against the Roman government:

And they neither found me ... - The first charge of Tertullus against Paul was Acts 24:5 that he was âa pestilent fellow, and a mover of sedition.â The charge of his being a Test was so general that Paul did not think it necessary to attempt to refute it. To the specification that he was a mover of sedition, he replies by a firm denial, and by a solemn declaration that they had not found him in any synagogue, or in the city, or in the temple, either disputing or exciting a tumult. Pits conduct there had been entirely peaceable, and they had no right to suppose that it had been otherwise anywhere.
