Contextual Overview

1Jesus later traveled throughout the land of Galilee. He stayed out of Judea because the Jews wanted to string him up. 2Then the time came for the Jewish Festival of Tents, and 3Jesus's brothers poked fun at him saying, "Leave Galilee and go to Judea. Your cowboys need to see what you can really do. 4If you want people to follow you, you can't hide out in the country where no one can see your great power. Since you are so powerful, go show yourself to the world." 5Obviously his brothers didn't even believe in who he was at this time. 6Jesus replied, "My time to go to Judea isn't right now, but you can leave if you want to. 7This world won't turn against you, but it has already turned against me because I tell it like it is—this world is full of evil people. 8So, y'all go ahead and go to the festival, but I won't go before my time." 9When he was done, he rode off to another ranch in the Galilee area. 10After his brothers had left for Jerusalem, Jesus headed there at a long trot, too. But he went in secret.

Matthew 24:38
Folks were cookin' on the grill and havin' their drink of choice and celebratin' weddings right up to the time that Noah jumped on the big boat.
1 Thessalonians 5:3
When everyone is complacent and content with the ways of this sorry world, the fires of the prescribed burn will be lit. And just like a pregnant woman can't stop the birth, neither will the scoffers be able to escape the fire.

Gill's Notes on the Bible

Then the Jews sought him at the feast,.... Some to take him and kill him, and others to hear his doctrine, and see his miracles: for all expected him at the feast, knowing it was always his custom, as it was his duty, as an Israelite, to attend at it:

and said, where is he? not naming his name; either through contempt, which might be the case of the far greater part; or through fear of the Jews; or because that he was so well known.

Clarke's Notes on the Bible

Verse John 7:11. Then the Jews sought him — By Jews here are to be understood the scribes, Pharisees, and rulers of the people, and not the inhabitants of the province of Judea. It appears, from the following verses, that many of the people were prejudiced in his favour, but they dared not to own it publicly for fear of the Jews, i.e. for fear of the rulers of the people.
