1Then Jesus found seventy other day workers willing to ride for him and sent them out in pairs to prepare all the places he would go. 2He told them, "There's plenty of strays to be gathered, but there ain't many cowboys. Pray to the Lord of the roundup for cowboys to come help. 3Go now and ride, but understand, I am sending y'all out like sheep among the wolves. 4Don't take a money pouch, no saddlebags, no extra boots, and don't talk to anyone on the road. 5When you get to a house, first say, 'May peace fill this place.' 6If someone who wants that too lives there, then it will happen. If not, then your gift will be returned, and peace will leave with you. 7Stay there until you finish your job. Let them take care of you because the worker deserves his wages. Don't be moving around to other houses. 8If you head into a town, and they welcome you, then eat the vittles they provide. 9Heal all the people who are sick and tell them, 'God's outfit is close!' 10"But if someone doesn't want you in their town, then walk right out in the street and say,

But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment,.... Or "in the day of judgment", as read the Syriac, Persic, Ethiopic, and Gothic versions; and as it is in Matthew 11:22

than for you; the inhabitants of Chorazin and Bethsaida, who will be more severely punished than these Gentile cities; for by how much greater were their light, privileges, and advantages against which they sinned, by so much will be their severer punishment.
