THE MESSAGE
Jesus knew what they were thinking and said, "Any country in civil war for very long is wasted. A constantly squabbling family falls to pieces. If Satan cancels Satan, is there any Satan left? You accuse me of ganging up with the Devil, the prince of demons, to cast out demons, but if you're slinging devil mud at me, calling me a devil who kicks out devils, doesn't the same mud stick to your own exorcists? But if it's God's finger I'm pointing that sends the demons on their way, then God's kingdom is here for sure.

Contextual Overview

14One day Jesus was kickin' a demon out of a guy, and when it was gone, he began to talk. 15Some folks started a rumor that said, "He can kick demons out of people because he rides for the devil." 16Many folks wanted more proof and more miracles to prove Jesus had come from God. 17Jesus was not oblivious to their thinking. He told 'em, "Any outfit that can't get along will fail. A crew that fights will fall apart. 18You say I ride for the devil, but if I'm fightin' the one I ride for, how can his crew succeed? 19And if I'm ridin' for Satan, then what about your people who cast out demons too? Are they ridin' for the devil also? If they hear what you're saying they ain't gonna like it much, 20but if I am working for the Boss in heaven, then his outfit has arrived on earth. 21When a cowboy rides shotgun over his herd, everything is safe. 22That is until someone sneaks up on him and takes his weapon, his horse, and all his herd. 23"Anyone who doesn't ride for me is against me. If you don't gather with me, then you are scattering it.

Gill's Notes on the Bible

But he knowing their thoughts,.... Being God omniscient,

said unto them; the following parables, as they are called in Mark 3:23 or proverbial expressions, very pertinent to the purpose, and sufficient to set aside the base calumnies of the Pharisees:

every kingdom divided against itself, is brought to desolation; in process of time, division will end in destruction; and as it does in the kingdoms of the world, of which there have been fatal instances, so it would in the kingdom of Satan, was there in it a division, which the calumny of the Pharisees supposes:

and an house divided against an house, falleth. The Persic version renders it, "an house divided from the foundation, falls"; the sense is, a family, in which one part is opposed to the other, issues in the ruin of both; Mark 3:23- :,

Mark 3:23- :,

Mark 3:23- :.
