¹While all this was happening, many thousands of people had shown up to see and hear Jesus. There were so many people around that some were getting crushed. Jesus spoke to his twelve cowboys amidst the throng of folks saying, "Watch out for the religious leader's hypocrisy ^{2 3}Things whispered behind the hay will be shouted in the streets. Things mumbled under your breath will be blasted from the rooftops. ⁴"My friends, don't be afraid of those who can kill your body. When you die, it is over in a second. ⁵But listen, be afraid of the One who has power over your soul. We should fear the Boss because he is the only one who has the authority and power to throw you in the trash fire which is forever. He's the One you should be bowing down to. ⁶"But before you start thinking the Boss is against you, consider this, what do a few birds cost—two cents at the most? But God doesn't even forget about these little birds. ⁷The Boss has numbered the hairs on your head, so you don't have to be afraid. You are worth more than all the birds in the world. ⁸I'm telling you the truth. If you ride for me in public down here, I will show the angels in heaven that you have eternal life in God's outfit because you are in my tally book. ⁹But if you shun me down here, I'm going to shun you in heaven. ¹⁰I will forgive everyone and everything except the person who denies me and the power of the Holy Spirit.

And whosoever shall speak a word against the son of man, it shall be forgiven him,.... These words, though introduced by Luke among the sayings of Christ, recorded in Matt. 10 yet were said by Christ, on occasion of the Pharisees, ascribing his works to diabolical influence and assistance, :-

but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost; as the Pharisees did, by charging the miracles of Christ with being done by the help of the devil, when they were wrought by the finger of the Spirit:

it shall not be forgiven. The Ethiopic version adds at the close of this verse, as in Matthew, "neither in this world, nor in that which is to come".
