Cross-References
That's when Jesus said, "Thank you God for hiding all these things from the know-it-alls and the pompous wise men, and showin' it all to little kids.
Jesus blessed every kid who ever came to see him.
At that moment, the Holy Spirit filled Jesus with joy, and he prayed, "Boss, you're Lord over heaven and this big ball of dirt and water. Thank you for hiding the truth from those who think they are smart and showing it to those who have a childlike faith in you. I know this was your plan, Dad, and I know you like it."
She followed along behind us and shouted, "These men are cowboys who gather for the Most High God. They are here to tell you how to be saved!"
Let's all take our hats off in thanks to everything God has given us through his son, Jesus. By riding with him, we have already received every spiritual blessing in heaven.
Now, we give him praise for what he did in giving us his son. Shoot, he gave us the blessing his son deserved.
Gill's Notes on the Bible
And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen,.... To plough the field with,
and I go to prove them: this also being at, or near evening, was an unsuitable time to go into the field with yokes of oxen to try them, how they would draw the plough, and work in the field; the morning would have been a much more proper time:
I pray thee have me excused; to the master of the feast: this man represents also the carnal and worldly Jews, who preferred temporal things before spiritual.
Barnes' Notes on the Bible
I go to prove them - To try them, to see if he had made a good bargain. It is worthy of remark that this excuse was very trifling. He could as easily have tried them at any other time as then, and his whole conduct shows that he was more disposed to gratify âhimselfâ than to accept the invitation of his friend. He was selfish; just as all sinners are, who, to gratify their own worldliness and sins, refuse to accept the offers of the gospel.
