The disciples went and did exactly what Jesus told them to do. They led the donkey and colt out, laid some of their clothes on them, and Jesus mounted. Nearly all the people in the crowd threw their garments down on the road, giving him a royal welcome. Others cut branches from the trees and threw them down as a welcome mat. Crowds went ahead and crowds followed, all of them calling out, "Hosanna to David's son!" "Blessed is he who comes in God's name!" "Hosanna in highest heaven!"

1When they got close to Jerusalem,
2he told two of his cowboys, "Go into the village ahead and you will find a burro tied there with her colt standin' next to her. Untie them and bring them to me.
3If anyone says anything, tell 'em that the Boss's Son needs them."
4This happened to fulfill what had been said long ago,
5"Say to the daughter of Jerusalem, 'Look! Your king comes to you, gentle and ridin' on a donkey, not just any donkey, but the colt of a donkey.'"
6The cowboys went into the village and did just what Jesus told 'em to.
7They brought out the donkey and her colt, and used their jackets as a saddle blanket for the colt and Jesus got on.
8A large crowd spread their ponchos, coats, and vests on the road and others cut branches off the trees and covered the ground with them.
9The crowd of people went ahead of him and shouted, "Yippe-ti-yi-yay, the Boss's Son has come!""Great is he who comes from the Lord!" "Yippe-ti-yi-yo, the Boss's Son has come!"
10When Jesus rode into Jerusalem, the whole town was askin', "Who is this cowboy?"

And the disciples went,.... The two disciples, as the Arabic version reads, to the village over against them; and, as Mark says, "found the colt tied to the door without, in a place where two ways met": the house was just at the entrance of the village, at the door of which, on the outside in the street, was the colt fastened, where were two ways of going into, and coming out of the town; so that it was a public place; the colt was easily seen, nor could it well be taken away without being observed, as it was by the owners of it: and
did as Jesus commanded them; they loosed the colt; and whereas whilst they were loosing it, the owners of it asked them, what they meant by so doing? they returned for answer what Christ had directed them to say; upon which they were satisfied, and let them go with it; see Mark 11:4. This is a very considerable instance of the faith of the disciples in Christ, and their ready and cheerful obedience to him; who might have objected the appearance of theft, the scandal that might be brought upon them, and the trouble they might be exposed to hereby; but they make no hesitation, but go and do as he had ordered them; and in which, they are worthy of the imitation of all the followers of Jesus.
