¹⁸ For thus saith the Lorde, Beholde I wyll bryng agayne the captiuitie of Iacobs tentes, and defende his dwellyng place: the citie shalbe builded in her olde estate, and the houses shall haue their ryght foundation. ¹⁹ And out of them shal go thankesgeuing and the voyce of ioy: I wyll multiplie them, and they shal not be fewe, I shall endue them with honour, and no man shall subdue them. ²⁰ Their children shalbe as aforetyme, and their congregation shall continue in my syght: and all those that vexe them wyll I visite. ²¹ A captayne also shall come of them, and a prince shall spryng out from the middest of them, hym wyll I chalenge to my selfe, and he shall come vnto me: For what is he that geueth ouer his heart to come vnto me, saith the Lorde? ²² Ye shalbe my people also, and I wyll be your God. ²³ Beholde, on the other syde shall the wrath of the Lorde breake out as a stormie water, as a myghtie whirle wynde, and shall fall vpon the heades of the vngodly. ²⁴ The terrible displeasure of the Lorde shall not leaue of, vntyll he haue done and perfourmed the intent of his heart, which in the latter dayes ye shall vnderstande.

The fierce anger of the Lord shall not return,.... This explains what is meant by the continuing whirlwind in Jeremiah 30:23;

until he hath done [it]; his whole will and pleasure; brought Babylon to ruin, and destroyed all the antichristian powers:

and until he hath performed the intents of his heart; in a way of grace and mercy to his people, and in a way of wrath and vengeance on their enemies:

in the latter day ye shall consider it; this prophecy, and understand it; and see it wholly and fully accomplished.

Verse Jeremiah 30:24. In the latter days ye shall consider it. — By the latter days the Gospel dispensation is generally meant; and that restoration which is the principal topic in this and the succeeding chapter refers to this time. Had the Jews properly considered this subject, they would long ere this have been brought into the liberty of the Gospel, and saved from the maledictions under which they now groan. Why do not the Jews read their own prophets more conscientiously?
