⁴⁰ And the seuenth lot came out for the tribe of the children of Dan by their kinredes. ⁴¹ And the coast of their inheritaunce was, Zaraah, Esthaol, Irsemes, ⁴² Saelabin, Aialon, Iethlah, ⁴³ Elon, and Themnathah, and Akron, ⁴⁴ Elthekeh, Gibbethon, and Baalath, ⁴⁵ Iehud, Banebarac, & Gathrimon, ⁴⁶ Meiercon, and Arecon, with the border that lyeth before Iapho. ⁴⁷ And the coastes of the childre of Dan went out from them: And the children of Dan went vp to fyght against Lesem, and toke it, and smote it with ye edge of the sworde, & conquered it, and dwelt therin, and called it Dan, after the name of Dan their father. ⁴⁸ This is the inheritaunce of the tribe of the childre of Dan in theyr kinredes: these also are the cities, with their villages.

Shaalabbin: Eusebius calls it בכבגב, and places it in Samaria, and Jerome calls it Salebi - Ezek. 48 and joins it to Ajalon and Emmaus. Judges 1:35, Shaalbim

Ajalon: This appears to be the Ajalon which Jerome places two miles from Nicopolis or Emmaus, in the road to Jerusalem. Joshua 10:12, Joshua 21:24, 1 Samuel 14:31

Reciprocal: Judges 12:12 - Aijalon 1 Kings 4:9 - Shaalbim 1 Chronicles 8:13 - Aijalon 2 Chronicles 11:10 - Zorah

And Shaalabbin,.... The first of these is the same with Shaalbim, Judges 1:35; and which Jerom r calls Selab, in the tribe of Dan; and which he says was in his day shown a large village on the borders of Sebaste, by the name of Selaba.

and Ajalon is famous for the standing still of the moon in its valley while Joshua pursued his enemies, Judges 1:35- :;

and Jethlah, of which we read nowhere else.

Verse 42. Shaalabbin — The foxes. Of this city the Amorites kept constant possession. See Judges 1:35.

Ajalon — There was a place of this name about two miles from Nicopolis or Emmaus, on the road to Jerusalem.-Calmet.
