⁶ And he sayde vnto me: these sayinges are faythfull and true. And the Lorde God of the holy prophetes, sent his angell to shewe vnto his seruauntes, the thynges which must shortly be fulfilled. ⁷ Beholde, I come shortly: Happy is he that kepeth ye saying of the prophecie of this booke. ⁸ I Iohn sawe these thynges, & hearde them: And when I had hearde and seene, I fell downe to worship before the feete of the angell, which shewed me these thynges. ⁹ And he sayde vnto me: see thou do it not, for I am thy felowe seruaunt, and the felowe seruaunt of thy brethren the prophetes, and of them which kepe the sayinges of this booke: But worshippe God. ¹⁰ And he sayde vnto me, seale not the sayinges of the prophecie of this booke: For the tyme is at hande. ¹¹ He that doeth euyll, let hym do euyll styll: and he which is filthie, let hym be filthie styll: and he that is ryghteous, let hym be ryghteous styll: and he that is holy, let hym be holy styll. ¹² And beholde, I come shortly, and my rewarde is with me, to geue euery man accordyng as his deedes shalbe. ¹³ I am Alpha and Omega, the begynnyng and the ende, the first and the last. ¹⁴ Blessed are they that do his commaundementes, that their power may be in the tree of lyfe, and may enter in through the gates into the citie. ¹⁵ For without shalbe dogges, and inchaunters, and whoremongers, and murtherers, and idolaters, and whosoeuer loueth or maketh leasynges.

I am Alpha and Omega,.... :-. These characters are all put together here, which are before used in Revelation 1:8 and are very pertinently mentioned in this place, when all promises and prophecies, relating to the glorious kingdom of Christ, were just finishing, and that itself was ready to appear, in which Christ alone should be exalted, the mystery of God would be completed, and time itself be no more. The Ethiopic version adds, "the beginning and end of days", or time. A testimony this, of the deity, eternity, infinity, and perfection of Christ.

I am Alpha and Omega ... - See the notes on Revelation 1:8, Revelation 1:11. The idea here is, that he will thus show that he is the first and the last - the beginning and the end. He originated the whole plan of salvation, and he will determine its close; he formed the world, and he will wind up its affairs. In the beginning, the continuance, and the end, he will be recognized as the same being presiding over and controlling all.
