2 Chronicles 26:20 — the chief priest. See note on Leviticus 4:3 . behold. Figure of speech Asterismos. himself hasted. As Haman (Esther 6:12 ).
Esther 1:12 — refused. Probably because sent for by servants; not by the nobles (Esther 1:3 ), and before the "peoples" (Esther 1:5 ).
Proverbs 15:15 — afflicted. Hebrew. 'anah. See note on "poverty", Proverbs 6:11 . evil = sad. Same word as in Proverbs 15:3 . merry = good.
Ecclesiastes 8:6 — purpose. See note on Ecclesiastes 3:1 . there is = there exists. Hebrew. yesh. therefore the misery = when the evil. great = heavy.
Isaiah 26:7 — way. See note on "path", Isaiah 2:3 . the just = a just one. uprightness = a perfect or level way. weigh = ponder.
Isaiah 36:9 — Egypt. Hezekiah at first looked for help there (See Isaiah 20:3-6 ; Isaiah 30:2-5 ; 2 Kings 18:21 ).
Isaiah 43:27 — Thy first father: i.e. Jacob, as stated in the next verse (compare Deuteronomy 26:5 .Ezekiel 16:3 , Ezekiel 16:45 ).
Jeremiah 20:2 — smote. Perhaps according to Deuteronomy 25:3 . high = upper. Probably north of the Temple, which looked toward the gate of Benjamin.
Jeremiah 8:3 — evil. Hebrew. ra'a'. App-44 . saith the LORD of hosts. See note on Jeremiah 6:6 . Compare 1 Samuel 1:3 .
Jonah 2:4 — Then said, &c. Compare Psa 81:22 toward, &c. Compare 1 Kings 8:38 . holy. See note on Exodus 3:5 .
Matthew 24:26 — secret chambers. See note on Matthew 6:6 . Greek. tameion. Occurs only there, here, and Luke 12:3 , Luke 12:24 .
Matthew 25:10 — went: were on their way. marriage = marriage, or wedding feast; as in Matthew 22:2 , Matthew 22:3 , Matthew 22:4 .
Matthew 5:11 — revile = reproach. evil = harmful thing. Greek. poneros. App-128 . falsely. This is another condition of the happiness of Matthew 5:3 .
Matthew 5:41 — to go: i.e. to carry his baggage. Compare Luke 3:14 . a mile. Greek. million (from Latin. miliarium) . Occurs only here.
Mark 5:35 — yet spake = was yet speaking. came = come. from = away from. Greek. apo. App-104 . Master = Teacher. App-98 . Mark 5:3 .
Luke 24:48 — witnesses = witness-bearers. Compare Acts 1:8 ; Acts 2:32 ; Acts 3:15 ; Acts 4:33 ; Acts 5:30-32 , &c.
Luke 3:17 — fan = winnowing = fan. floor = threshing = floor. burn = burn up. Greek katakaio = to consume entirely. Compare Matthew 3:12 .Hebrews 13:11 .
Romans 4:24 — for us = on account of us. shall = is about to. if we believe = to (us) believing. the dead. App-139 :3.
