Nehemiah 8:5 — opened the book = unrolled the scroll. in the sight = before the eyes. stood up. In token of reverence (Judges 3:20 . Job 29:8 , Job 37:14 ).
Esther 3:10 — the Jews' enemy. Haman so called four times: Esther 3:10 ; Esther 8:1 ; Esther 9:10 , Esther 9:24 . No one else so called in Scripture.
Job 14:10 — man = strong man. Hebrew. geber. App-14 . wasteth away = will decompose. giveth up, &c. See note on Job 3:11 . where . . . ? Figure of speech Erotesis. App-6 .

Proverbs 22:7 — The rich = a rich one. the poor = poor ones. is servant, &c. Illustrations: the widow (2 Kings 4:1 ); the Jews (Nehemiah 5:3 , Nehemiah 5:5 ).
Isaiah 38:3 — in truth. See note on Isaiah 10:20 . wept sore = wept a great weeping. Figure of speech Polyptoton ( App-6 ), for emphasis. Compare 2 Kings 20:3 .
Isaiah 63:18 — The People of Thy holiness = Thy holy People. Figure of speech Enallage . See note on Exodus 3:5 . Reference to Pentateuch (Deuteronomy 7:6 ; Deuteronomy 26:19 ).
Isaiah 63:6 — make them drunk in. Some codices, with one early printed edition, and Aramaean, read "brake them in pieces with". strength = life-blood, as in Isaiah 63:3 .
Jeremiah 15:19 — stand before Me: i.e. as My servant. Compare 1 Kings 18:15 . 2 Kings 3:14 . take forth the precious, &c. Reference to Pentateuch (Leviticus 10:10 ).
Jeremiah 16:12 — imagination = stubbornness. Reference to Pentateuch, (see notes on Jeremiah 3:17 ; Jeremiah 7:24 ; Jeremiah 9:14 ; Jeremiah 13:10 ). App-92 . evil. Hebrew. ra'a'. App-44 .
Jeremiah 5:20 — Declare . . . publish. Compare Jeremiah 4:15 . in the house of Jacob. Only here, and Amos 3:13 , with the Preposition "in". See note on Jeremiah 2:4 .
Jeremiah 52:15 — the poor of the people. This is supplemental to 2 Kings 25:12 . Hebrew. dal = impoverished. See note on "poverty", Proverbs 6:11 . Compare Nehemiah 1:3 .
Ezekiel 1:19 — the living creatures = the living ones. Compare verses: Ezekiel 1:21 , Ezekiel 1:22 , Ezekiel 1:3 ; Ezekiel 10:15 , Ezekiel 10:20 . The four were one.
Ezekiel 19:3 — one of her whelps. Probably Jehoahaz (i.e. Shah lam), the youngest son of Josiah, is intended (1 Chronicles 3:15 ). catch = rend, men. Hebrew ' adam . App-14 ,
Ezekiel 3:8 — Behold . Figure of speech Asterismos. App-6 . strong = strong, or hard (for endurance). Hebrew. hazak. Same as "harder "(Ezekiel 3:9 ). Compare the name Ezekiel in Title.
Ezekiel 39:7 — holy. See note on Exodus 3:5 . name. See note on Psalms 20:1 . pollute = profane. heathen = nations. shall know , &c. See note on Ezekiel 6:10 .
Ezekiel 47:14 — to give it , &c. Reference to Pentateuch (Genesis 12:7 ; Genesis 12:17 , Genesis 12:8 ; Genesis 26:3 ; Genesis 28:13 ; Genesis 50:24 ). App-92 .
