1 Kings 4:5 — Nathan. Probably David's son. Compare Luke 3:31 . principle officer = priest. See Hebrew (2 Samuel 8:18 ). the king's friend, as Hushai had been David's (2 Samuel 15:37 ).

2 Kings 17:5 — the king of Aasyria. Shalmaneser (2 Kings 17:3 ), who commenced the siege, but died before Sargon, his successor, captured Samaria in 611 B.C. three years. From 613-611.

1 Chronicles 24:1 — divisions . . . Aaron. 1 Chronicles 2:0 4 is concerning the courses of the priests, as 1 Chronicles 2:0 3 is of the Levites. Compare 1 Chronicles 23:6 .

2 Chronicles 1:4 — But = But indeed. the ark. See note on 1 Chronicles 13:3 .Exodus 25:22 . brought up. Compare 2 Samuel 6:2 , 2Sa 6:17 . 1 Chronicles 15:1 .

Ezra 4:17 — answer. Chaldee. pithgam = an order or decree. A Persian word. Occurs only here and Ezra 5:5 , Ezra 5:11 ; Ezra 6:11 .Daniel 3:16 ; Daniel 4:17 .

Esther 9:28 — should not fail. This sounds like a prophecy, and sets a seal on the inspiration of the book. perish = come to an end. See note on Esther 3:13 .

Psalms 140:3 — tongues. Singular. See note on Psalms 140:11 . Quoted in Romans 3:13 . Selah. Connecting the evil with the prayer to be delivered; thus marking the Structure ( App-66 )

Psalms 41:8 — An evil disease = a thing of Belial. Compare Psalms 101:3 .Deuteronomy 13:13 ; Deuteronomy 15:9 . Judges 19:22 . 1 Samuel 2:12 . See 2 Samuel 16:7 .

Psalms 44:7 — But = For, as in Psalms 44:3 . hast saved = didst save. Referring to verses: Psalms 44:1-4 . hast put = didst put. Referring to verses: Psalms 44:1-4 .

Proverbs 20:19 — meddle = mingle, mix thyself up. Not the same word as in Proverbs 20:3 . lips. Put by Figure of speech Metonymy (of Cause) for the flattery spoken by them.

Proverbs 9:11 — be multiplied = become great [in importance or usefulness]. Not necessarily "many" in number. shall be increased: i.e. in importance. Not necessarily in number. See note on Proverbs 3:16 .

Ecclesiastes 5:4 — vowest a vow = makest a solemn vow. Figure of speech Polyptoton ( App-6 ). God. Hebrew. Elohim. App-4 . pleasure. See note on "purpose", Ecclesiastes 3:1 , and App-76 .

Isaiah 22:22 — so = and. open and. shut. Put by Figure of speech Metonymy (of Adjunct), for power of administration. Compare Revelation 3:7 , which shows that the fulfilment culminates in Messiah.
