1 Kings 22:2
came down. In every sense of the word; and this after 2 Chronicles 17:1 . First was the matrimonial alliance (2 Chronicles 18:1 ), compare 2 Kings 8:18 ; and then the military alliance (1 Kings 22:4 and 2 Chronicles 18:3 ). No mention here of the former, which was the secret cause that led up to it. Both fatal. Compare the commercial alliance of Jehoshaphat in 2 Chronicles 20:35-37 , and the experience gained by Jehoshaphat in Ch. 1Ki 22:48 , 1 Kings 22:49 .
1 Kings 8:47
if, &c. Deuteronomy supplied the Lord with answers in His temptation; and supplied Solomon with petitions for his prayer. Compare 1Ki 30:1-3 , 1Ki 30:4 , 1Ki 30:20 ; 1 Kings 9:26 , 1Ki 9:29 (compare verses: 1 Kings 8:51-52 below); 1 Kings 7:9 (Compare 1 Kings 8:23 above); and 1 Kings 10:14 (Compare 1 Kings 8:27 above), &c.
bethink themselves = call themselves to their right mind. (The verb is in the Hiphil.)
saying, We have sinned. Compare Nehemiah 1:6 , Nehemiah 1:7 . Daniel 9:8 .

a Conduit = the conduit. A long underground channel discovered by Sir Charles Warren (in 1867) running from Gihon (now the Virgin's Fount) down to Siloam. An inscription found in it describes the making of it. Compare 2 Chronicles 32:30 .
brought water = brought the water. This is referred to by Hezekiah in Psalms 46:4 , where it is contrasted with the raging waters of 2 Kings 20:3 . Compare this with Isaiah 8:6-8 .
1 Chronicles 9:2
the first inhabitants: i.e. after the reoccupation on the return from Babylon, under Zerubbabe], Joshua, Nehemiah, and Ezra 454-400 B.C. See App-50 .
the Israelites. Hebrew "Israel": i.e. the "Israel of God". Compare Nehemiah 11:3 . See note on "Israel" (Genesis 32:28 ; Genesis 43:6 ; Genesis 45:26 , Genesis 45:28 ). Called "Israel", although only the return of Judah and Benjamin. See note on 1 Kings 12:17 .

of David = by David, or relating to the true David. The sequel to Psalms 28:0 , and the fulfilment of the promise in Psalms 28:7 . It is "the voice of Jehovah" in response to David's voice in Psalms 28:6 . It ends in the same manner.
Give = Ascribe, or Bring as due.

Title. for Solomon. Not of, but concerning. See Epilogue by David for his son Solomon, and for his "Greater Son", the Messiah. Written after Solomon ' s second investiture, 1 Chronicles 29:23 (921 B. C). The year before David's death.
