Psalms 109:20 — speaker of verses: Psalms 109:1-5 . reward = work. Not the same word as in Psalms 109:5 . from the LORD = from Jehovah. It was He Who permitted it. Compare Psalms 109:27 , "This is Thy hand; Thou, LORD, hast done it". See Psalms 22:15 ; Psalms 38:2 , Psalms 38:3 ; Psalms 39:9 , Psalms 39:10 . Compare 2 Samuel 16:11 , "the LORD hath bidden him". speak evil. See verses: Psalms 109:6-19 for the evil spoken. soul. Hebrew. nephesh. App-13 .

Psalms 132:1 — all his afflictions = all his being afflicted: all his anxious cares as to his work. The Temple was Heze-kiah's care, as it had been David's. Not "post-exilic". We see these anxieties from the beginning of his reign (2 Samuel 7:1 , 1 Chronicles 13:3 ; 1Ch 21:18-30 ; 1 Chronicles 22:1 . The subjects of these last three Psalms are merged in blessing.

Psalms 144:15 — Happy. See App-63 . in such a case: i.e. holding the false view that happiness consists in outward prosperity. Compare Psalms 4:6 , Psalms 4:7 , and Psalms 146:3 and Psalms 146:5 . Yea. Supply the Ellipsis ( App-6 ), not as in Authorized Version and Revised Version,

Proverbs 13:5 — hateth lying. Thou wilt debate with it = Thou wilt curb it (i.e. the stroke of Isaiah 27:7 ). Hebrew. rib . = plead, as in Isaiah 1:17 ; Isaiah 3:13 ; Isaiah 51:22 .Jeremiah 2:9 , Jeremiah 2:29 ; Jeremiah 12:1 ; Jeremiah 50:34 .Micah 7:9 . rough = harsh, or severe. wind. Hebrew. ruach . Isaiah 9:6 — App-102 . is. Figure of speech Prolepsis . given. The interval of this present dispensation comes between the word "given" and the next clause. government. Daniel 11:20 — Heliodorus to Jerusalem to plunder the Temple, &c. neither in anger . Ginsburg suggests "and not with hands", because it was by poison. Here ends the historical portion, which has been fulfilled now, but which was then future, verse Dan 21:12 , Dan 21:3 passes on to the time which is still (1912/2009) future to us. Here begins the portion of this prophecy which is still future to us (1912/2009), "the latter days" of Daniel 10:14 .

Daniel 5:1 — feet wide and 172 feet long, the walls being beautifully decorated with painted stucco designs. See Records of the Past, vol. i, part v, p. 160. lords = great ones, or nobles. Amos 1:2 — writing the words down. The LORD. Hebrew. Jehovah . App-4 . This title is not the usual one in this book. roar = roar as a. lion, or thunder. It is always, when predicated of the Lord, connected with the end of Gentile dominion. Compare Jeremiah 25:30 , Joel 3:16 . utter = give out. habitations = pastures. shepherds. Amos 1:5 — the bar. Note the Figure of speech Metalepsis ( App-6 ), by which "bar" is put by Figure of speech Metalepsis , App-6 , for the gates, and then the gates put for defence of the city. Amos 9:11 — Temple was built on Moriah by Solomon. in Amos 7:7-9 , it was seen to be "out of plumb", therefore on the point of falling. Here it is fallen down: hence the prophecy here given. In Acts 15:0 the time had come, had the People obeyed Peter's call in Amo 3:18-21 . But it was finally rejected (Acts 28:25-28 ), and this prophecy, therefore, yet awaits its fulfilment.

Obadiah 1:1 — Obadiah = Servant of Jehovah. Compare 1 Kings 18:3 . Thus saith, &c. The words of this prophecy, therefore, are not Obadiah's, but Jehovah's. Compare verses: Obadiah 1:1 , Obadiah 1:8 , Obadiah 1:18 . the Lord GOD. Hebrew Adonai Jehovah. App-4 . concerning Edom. See notes on p. 1244. We

Zechariah 6:5 — These are, &c. This is the angel's interpretation, and needs no further explanation. It is for our faith; not for our reason, the four spirits : or, the four angels.
