reward = work. Not the same word as in Psalms 109:5 .
from the LORD = from Jehovah. It was He Who permitted it. Compare Psalms 109:27 , "This is Thy hand; Thou, LORD, hast done it". See Psalms 22:15 ; Psalms 38:2 , Psalms 38:3 ; Psalms 39:9 , Psalms 39:10 . Compare 2 Samuel 16:11 , "the LORD hath bidden him".
speak evil. See verses: Psalms 109:6-19 for the evil spoken.
soul. Hebrew. nephesh. App-13 .
Psalms 132:1
all his afflictions = all his being afflicted: all his anxious cares as to his work. The Temple was Heze-kiah's care, as it had been David's. Not "post-exilic". We see these anxieties from the beginning of his reign (2 Samuel 7:1 , 1 Chronicles 13:3 ; 1Ch 21:18-30 ; 1 Chronicles 22:1 . The subjects of these last three Psalms are merged in blessing.
Psalms 144:15
Happy. See App-63 . in such a case: i.e. holding the false view that happiness consists in outward prosperity. Compare Psalms 4:6 , Psalms 4:7 , and Psalms 146:3 and Psalms 146:5 .
Yea. Supply the Ellipsis ( App-6 ), not as in Authorized Version and Revised Version,

Here begins the portion of this prophecy which is still future to us (1912/2009), "the latter days" of Daniel 10:14 .

shepherds. Not the same word as in Amos 1:1 , but the usual word ( raah = tenders).
top of Carmel. Mount Carmel in the north, thus embracing the whole land; now Jebel Kurmul ; not

the bar. Note the Figure of speech Metalepsis ( App-6 ), by which "bar" is put by Figure of speech Metalepsis , App-6 , for the gates, and then the gates put for defence of the city. Compare Deuteronomy 3:5 . 1 Kings 4:13 .Jeremiah 51:30 . Lamentations 2:9 .
the inhabitant: or, him that is seated: i.e. the ruler, corresponding with the next line.
Avon. Same a Beth-aven, east of Beth-el, belonging to Benjamin. Compare Hosea 4:15 ; Hosea 5:8 ; Hosea
Amos 9:11 Temple was built on Moriah by Solomon. in Amos 7:7-9 , it was seen to be "out of plumb", therefore on the point of falling. Here it is fallen down: hence the prophecy here given. In Acts 15:0 the time had come, had the People obeyed Peter's call in Amo 3:18-21 . But it was finally rejected (Acts 28:25-28 ), and this prophecy, therefore, yet awaits its fulfilment.
Obadiah 1:1
Obadiah = Servant of Jehovah. Compare 1 Kings 18:3 .
Thus saith, &c. The words of this prophecy, therefore, are not Obadiah's, but Jehovah's. Compare verses: Obadiah 1:1 , Obadiah 1:8 , Obadiah 1:18 .
the Lord GOD. Hebrew Adonai Jehovah. App-4 .

Zechariah 6:5
These are, &c. This is the angel's interpretation, and needs no further explanation. It is for our faith; not for our reason,
the four spirits : or, the four angels. Compare Revelation 7:1-3 , Revelation 9:14 , Revelation 9:15 . They thus have to do with the time of the end. Their ministry is earthward, and has to do with judgment.
