Pul . . . and . . . Tilgath-pilneser. Two names of one person: Pul, the original and official name in Babylon of this usurper; Tilgath, his official name in Assyria, which he assumed from an earlier king. Compare 2 Kings 15:19 .
Halah . . . Gozan. Whither the Israelites west of Jordan were deported by Sargon (2 Kings 15:29 , 2 Kings 17:6 ; 2 Kings 18:11 ).

Psalms 147:1
The second of these five Hallelujah Psalms, the EXODUS Psalm.
Praise ye THE LORD. Hebrew Hallelu-JAH. App-4 . Not "inserted by mistake in verse Psalms 147:1 instead of in the title", but required here by the Structure. See the Structure.
For. Not "come into the first line from the second by dittography", but an essential part of the second line, which is repeated by the Figure of speech Anadiplosis
Psalms 28:1
Title. A Psalm. App-65 .
of David = by David, or relating to the true David. The Psalm is a continuation of Psalms 27:0 , and stands in relation to Psalms 18:0 .
LORD. Hebrew. Jehovah. App-4 . In Psalms 28:0 and Psalms 29:0 thereare twenty verses, and Jehovah occurs twenty times.
rock. Heb. zur See note on Psalms 18:1-2 and compare Psalms 27:5 . The reference is to Psalms 18:0 .

A Song, &c. Repeated from the title. Compare Psalms 45:0 for a similar repetition.

upon Mahalath Leannoth = relating to the shoutings with dancings in bringing up the Ark to Zion (2 Samuel 6:12-15 ; and 1 Chronicles 15:25-29 ). As in Judges 21:21 , Judges 21:23 (compare Revised Version), and see App-65 .
Psalms 93:1 The LORD. Hebrew. Jehovah. App-4 .
The LORD reigneth. Three Psalms commence thus (93, 97, 99); they each end with the thought of "holiness" (the last has the word "holy" three times), indicating that, when He reigns, "all will be holy" (Isaiah 23:18 . Zechariah 14:20 , Zechariah 14:21 ). This explains the cry of the Zoa (Revelation 4:8 ), because His judgments will prepare the way for His reign.

Isaiah 60:5
flow together: or, according to the Targum and Syriac, "shall be lightened", as in Psalms 34:5 .
fear = praise. Hebrew. pahad. A Homonym, with two meanings: (1) to fear, as in Deuteronomy 28:66 . Job 23:15 ; but (2) to rejoice, here and Hosea 3:5 = praise. See note there.
be enlarged = opened as with joy.

Isaiah 7:11
sign. Hebrew. 'oth , a present visible token or pledge, as in Genesis 1:14 . Ex. Isaiah 4:4 ; Isa 4:9 ; Isa 12:13 ; and especially Isaiah 8:18 . This word is used eight times in the "former" portion (here; Isaiah 7:14 ; Isaiah 8:18 ; Isaiah 19:20 ; Isaiah 20:3 ; Isaiah 37:30 ; Isaiah 38:7 , Isaiah 38:22 ); and three times
Jeremiah 1:13 north = from the north: i.e. turned towards the prophet, who saw it from the south. The enemy of which it spoke, though situated on the east, would come round the desert and advance from the north, through Dan, the usual route from Assyria. See Jeremiah 1:14 .
Jeremiah 2:4
house of Jacob. Occurs only here, and Jeremiah 5:20 , where it is "in the house of Jacob". The only other passage is Amos 3:13 .
the house of Israel. The Massorah ( App-30 ), records that this expression occurs twenty times in Jeremiah (here; Jeremiah 2:26 ; Jeremiah 3:18 , Jeremiah 3:20 ; Jeremiah 5:11 , Jeremiah 5:15 ; Jeremiah 9:26 ; Jeremiah 10:1 ; Jeremiah 11:10 ,
Jeremiah 51:31 [each] end". This will accord with the history; for Herodotus says the Babylonians retired to the city, and "remained in their holds". Cyrus, having turned the waters of the Euphrates, entered the city, by the bed of the river, at each end (see Herod 1 191). Compare Daniel 5:3 , Daniel 5:4 , Daniel 5:23 , Daniel 5:30 . The Revised Version, "on every quarter", quite misses the point. This passage, therefore, belongs to the past fulfilment; while others still await a future fulfilment.
Ezekiel 1:28
