Nehemiah 9:38 — And because, &c. Ezra chapter 10 in Hebrew text begins with this verse. Princes. Nehemiah and Hananiah, if not others, were members of the royal family of Judah. See Nehemiah 1:1 . This chapter is parallel with the last chapter of Ezra ( Neh 10:1-44 ). Consequently all beyond it is supplementary (chronologically). See note on Nehemiah 9:1 , the Structure on p. 617, notes on p. 618, and App-58 .

Numbers 1:32 — Joseph. "The fruitful vine" (Genesis 49:22 ) has two tribes (not merely "families"). Thus Joseph has "the double portion" (1 Chronicles 5:1 , 1 Chronicles 5:2 ). Ephraim. Blessed first (Genesis 48:19 , Genesis 48:20 ), is here named first, and is increased more than Manasseh (Deuteronomy 33:17 ). But in journeyings his numbers were diminished by 8,000. See Numbers 26:37 , and compare 1 Chronicles 7:20-22 .
Jonah 1:9 — he said, &c. He does not tell them all. We find the real reason in Jonah 4:1-3 . Hebrew. Referring to the language spoken. A title used in relation to foreigners (Genesis 40:16 . Exodus 3:18 , &c.) the God of heaven . The title in relation to the Creator's creatures. See note on 2 Chronicles 36:23 . Which hath made, &c. Reference to Pentateuch (Genesis 1:1 , Genesis 1:10 ).
Zechariah 6:10 — captivity: or exile, being a deputation. Hebrew. golah. The special word for the Jews captive in Babylonia (2 Kings 24:15 , 2 Kings 24:16 . Ezra 1:11 ; Ezra 2:1 , &c. Nehemiah 7:6 . Esther 2:6 . Jeremiah 28:6 . Ezekiel 1:1 , &c.) Put here by Figure of speech Metonymy (of Adjunct), App-6 , for the returned exiles themselves. go. Supply the Ellipsis ( App-6 ), thus: "come [with them)".
