2 Kings 4:1-44
Intro: Sermons to the Eyes
Tonight we’ll walk through 4/5 miracles in Elisha’s life. Spurgeon said miracles were intended to instruct as well as to impress. They are, Sermons to the Eyes.
Sometimes we are called to be alone with God. Depending on Him alone. In touch with the Source of miracles.
2 Kings 5:1-27 the bible? (Q&A)
What (former) leper of Bethany entertained Jesus in his home? Simon (Mark 14:3)
What king of Judah was a leper until the day of his death? Uzziah (2 Chron.26:21)
What captain of the armies of Syria was a leper? Naaman (2 Kings 5:1)
What prophetess became a snow-white leper for a short time? Miriam (Numb.12:10)
Who put his hand into his bosom and, drawing it out, found it leprous? Moses (Ex.4:6)
Who became a leper after he lied to the prophet Elisha? Gehazi (2 Kings 5:27)
Who
Jeremiah 21:1-14 here: 1st to the King; 2nd to the People; 3rd to the kings of Judah.
1st MESSAGE! To King Zedekiah! (1-7)
He is the last King of Judah.
Vs.2 – Why don’t we just ask God for 2+2 to = 5? All that God does must be for the best.
He rebelled against Babylon & ended up being captured & seeing his son slain.
Jeremiah told him, Babylon isn’t fighting against you,…God is!
He wasn’t a man of faith…but wanted
Jeremiah 21:1-14 here: 1st to the King; 2nd to the People; 3rd to the kings of Judah.
1st MESSAGE! To King Zedekiah! (1-7)
He is the last King of Judah.
Vs.2 – Why don’t we just ask God for 2+2 to = 5? All that God does must be for the best.
He rebelled against Babylon & ended up being captured & seeing his son slain.
Jeremiah told him, Babylon isn’t fighting against you,…God is!
He wasn’t a man of faith…but wanted
Jeremiah 40:1-16 His enemies.
2 Sam.12:14 "However, because by this deed you have given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme(the sin w/Bathsheba), the child also who is born to you shall surely die."
Vs.5 – “Rations, a gift basket, & his freedom” - Prov.16:7 “When a man's ways please the LORD, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.”
Vs.6 – So, should he stay or go?
Esp. after telling for
Jeremiah 45:1-5
Baruch (1-5)
Baruch was Jeremiah’s secretary who also was taken to Egypt.
This event occurred after he wrote a 2nd copy of the prophecy, because Jehoiakim burned the original(36).
We praise God for what Jeremiah had done, but also for his
Daniel 2:24-49 repentance.
It’s never too late to come home!
Repent (2a)
Take words w/you. – These are obviously not “words only” but we see the action of confession “take away all iniquity.”
This is quoted later in Heb.13:15 “Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.”
Receive (2b-4)
Receive His Grace(2b)
And remember, He is more concerned w/the “sacrifice
Hosea 14:1-9 repentance.
It’s never too late to come home!

The city was surrounded by an inner wall and an outer wall.
The huge inner wall (50’ wide, 100’ high) was about 8 miles in circumference while the outer wall encompassed fields and smaller towns.
It was a very sinful city. Read Nahum 3:1-4 (ruthless, cruel, violent city)
Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall
Jonah 3:1-10 part of the city).

Both were about to lose something: Jairus was about to lose a daughter who had given him 12 years of happiness. The woman was about to lose an affliction that had brought her 12 years of sorrow.
Matthew shortens the story, Mark(5) & Luke(8) give longer & different angles of the story.

Deuteronomy 25:1-19 too late. There was only a foot of water in the pool. He broke his neck, and he’s in therapy to this day. He didn’t realize that the signs on the fence - the precepts - would have protected him. (Josh McDowell, New Man, March/April 1995, p. 55)
Remember, Laws are for our protection and our provision.

He mentions this in: Romans, 1st & 2nd Cor., Galatians, & Acts.
