Jesus charged the Pharisees w/hypocrisy because they tried to hide what they really were behind masks of outward religious practices. (Shepherd’s Notes; pg.45.)
Often when you fear people, you start to hide the truth, & this leads to hypocrisy.
When we fear people, then we are in danger of compromising in order to please them. And then there we are “playacting” again!
Hypocrisy
Luke 24:13-27 appeared to Mary Magdalene (9-11) or, more likely, that He appeared to them in a form different from that in which they had previously recognized Him as Jesus.
Jesus’ resurrection body remains a mystery: (Shepherd’s Notes; pg.94)
He appeared to the disciples from time to time, usually suddenly.
He had a body that could be seen & touched.
The disciples recognized Jesus’ body as His body.
The resurrection means more than that His spirit survived death!

Continuing on that theme, Jesus is going to take the time to quiet & exhort his disciples hearts.
This next section in John (ch.’s 14-17) contain some of the deepest & most spiritual of our Lord’s teaching. It has been described thus:

Ch.15 - Instruction, an appeal to Love;
Ch.16 - Prediction, an incentive to Hope;
