Exodus 24:5 5. young men—priests ( :-), probably the oldest sons of particular families, who
acted under the direction of Moses.
oxen—Other animals,
though not mentioned, were offered in sacrifice ( :-).
1 Chronicles 23:5 5. praised the Lord with the
instruments which I made—David seems to have been an inventor
of many of the musical instruments used in the temple ( :-).
Job 13:28 28. Job speaks of himself in the
third person, thus forming the transition to the general lot
of man (Job 14:1; Psalms 39:11;
Hosea 5:12).
Job 30:30 30. upon me—rather, as in :- (see on Job 30:3),
"my skin is black (and falls away) from me."
my bones— (Job 19:20;
Psalms 102:5).

line—of measurement
(Isaiah 28:17). The earth is
formed on an all-wise plan.
Job 4:9 9. breath of his nostrils—God's
anger; a figure from the fiery winds of the East (Job 1:16;
Isaiah 5:25; Psalms 18:8;
Psalms 18:15).
Psalms 35:5 5, 6. (Compare :-) —a terrible fate; driven by wind on a slippery path in
darkness, and hotly pursued by supernatural violence (2 Samuel 24:16;
Acts 12:23).
Psalms 82:2 2. accept the persons—literally,
"lift up the faces," that is, from dejection, or admit to
favor and communion, regardless of merit (Leviticus 19:15;
Proverbs 18:5).
Psalms 82:5 5. By the wilful ignorance and
negligence of judges, anarchy ensues (Psalms 11:3;
Psalms 75:3).

ways—that is, who knows and loves the way to God's favor

fly after or seek riches, they are not, that is, either become
transitory or unsatisfying; fully expressed by their flying away.

acknowledge—by seeking
His wise aid (Proverbs 16:3; Psalms 37:5;
Jeremiah 9:23; Jeremiah 9:24).
direct—literally, "make
plain" (compare Hebrews 12:13).
Isaiah 17:4 4. glory of Jacob—the kingdom
of Ephraim and all that they rely on (Hosea 12:2;
Micah 1:5).
fatness . . . lean—(See

Isaiah 9:13 13-17. Second strophe.
turneth not—the design of
God's chastisements; not fulfilled in their case; a new cause for
punishment (Jeremiah 2:20; Jeremiah 5:3).
Jeremiah 11:9 9. conspiracy—a deliberate
combination against God and against Josiah's reformation. Their
idolatry is not the result of a hasty impulse (Psalms 83:5;
Ezekiel 22:25).
Jeremiah 48:25 25. horn—the emblem of
strength and sovereignty: it is the horned animal's means of offense
and defense (Psalms 75:5; Psalms 75:10;
Lamentations 2:3).
John 5:5 5-9. thirty and eight years—but
not all that time at the pool. This was probably the most pitiable of
all the cases, and therefore selected.
