It is probable that the internal elevation only is here stated.

1 Chronicles 26:5 — 5. God blessed him—that is, Obed-edom. The occasion of the blessing was his faithful custody of the ark (2 Samuel 6:11; 2 Samuel 6:12). Job 37:5 — 5. (Job 36:26; Psalms 65:6; Psalms 139:14). The sublimity of the description lies in this, that God is everywhere in the storm, directing it whither He will [BARNES]. See Psalms 29:1-11, where, as here, the "voice" of God is repeated with grand effect. The thunder in Arabia is sublimely terrible.
Job 5:4 — 4. His children . . . crushed in the gate—A judicial formula. The gate was the place of judgment and of other public proceedings (Psalms 127:5; Proverbs 22:22; Genesis 23:10; Deuteronomy 21:19). Such propylæa have been found in the Assyrian remains. Eliphaz obliquely alludes to the calamity which cut off Job's children.
Psalms 105:39 — 39. covering—in sense of protection (compare Exodus 13:21; Numbers 10:34). In the burning sands of the desert the cloud protected the congregation from the heat of the sun; an emblem of God's protecting favor of His people, as interpreted by Isaiah (Isaiah 4:5; Isaiah 4:6; compare Isaiah 4:6- :).
Psalms 70 overview — PSALM 70 :-. This corresponds to :- with a very few variations, as "turn back" ( :-) for "desolate," and "make haste unto me" (Psalms 70:5) for "thinketh upon me." It forms a suitable appendix to the preceding, and is called "a Psalm to bring to remembrance," as the thirty-eighth [see on Psalms 70:3, title].
Psalms 72:1 — 1. Give the king, c.—a prayer which is equivalent to a prediction. judgments—the acts, and (figuratively) the principles of a right government (John 5:22 John 9:39). righteousness—qualifications for conducting such a government. king's son—same person as a king—a very proper title for Christ, as such in both natures.
Ecclesiastes 9:7 — 7. Addressed to the "righteous wise," spoken of in Ecclesiastes 9:1. Being "in the hand of God," who now accepteth "thy works" in His service, as He has previously accepted thy person (Genesis 4:4), thou mayest "eat . . . with a cheerful (not sensually 'merry') heart" (Ecclesiastes 3:13; Ecclesiastes 5:18; Acts 2:46).
Isaiah 17:2 — 2. cities of Aroer—that is, the cities round Aroer, and under its jurisdiction [GESENIUS]. So "cities with their villages" ( :-); "Heshbon and all her cities" ( :-). Aroer was near Rabbahammon, at the river of Gad, an arm of the Jabbok (2 Samuel 24:5), founded by the Gadites (Numbers 32:34). for flocks— (Numbers 32:34- :).
Isaiah 43:22 — 22. But—Israel, however, is not to think that these divine favors are due to their own piety towards God. So the believer ( :-). but—rather, "for." weary of me— (Amos 8:5; Amos 8:6; Malachi 1:13), though "I have not wearied thee" (Malachi 1:13- :), yet "thou hast been weary of Me."

Confirmation of His promises to the Church and Israel, by various instances of His omnipotence; among these the restoration of the Jews by Cyrus. alone—literally, "Who was with Me?" namely, when I did it; answering to "by Myself," in the parallel clause (compare similar phrases, Hosea 8:4; John 5:30) [MAURER].
Isaiah 63 overview — CHAPTER 63 :-. MESSIAH COMING AS THE AVENGER, IN ANSWER TO HIS PEOPLE'S PRAYERS. Messiah, approaching Jerusalem after having avenged His people on His and their enemies, is represented under imagery taken from the destruction of "Edom," the type of the last and most bitter foes of God and His people (see Isaiah 34:5, &c.).
Jeremiah 12:11 — 11. mourneth unto me—that is, before Me. EICHORN translates, "by reason of Me," because I have given it to desolation (Jeremiah 12:7). because no man layeth it to heart—because none by repentance and prayer seek to deprecate God's wrath. Or, "yet none lays it to heart"; as in Jeremiah 5:3 [CALVIN].
Numbers 14:5 — 5. Moses and Aaron fell on their faces—as humble and earnest suppliants—either to the people, entreating them to desist from so perverse a design; or rather, to God, as the usual and only refuge from the violence of that tumultuous and stiff-necked rabble—a hopeful means of softening and impressing their hearts.
Numbers 31:5 — 5. there were delivered—that is, drafted, chosen, an equal amount from each tribe, to prevent the outbreak of mutual jealousy or strife. Considering the numerical force of the enemy, this was a small quota to furnish. But the design was to exercise their faith and animate them to the approaching invasion of Canaan.

1 Samuel 27:8 — 8.
