1 Kings 7:47 — And Solomon left all the vessels [unweighed], because they were exceeding many: neither was the weight of the brass found out. Solomon left all the vessels unweighed. — Many men deal with their preservations, saith one, as Solomon did with the brass of the temple: it was so much, he weighed it not. Fell to Shelemiah. — Alias Meshelemiah. 1 Chronicles 26:1 So Jehoshuah the high priest is called Joshua. It is lawful to abbreviate names. A wise counsellor. — Heb., A giver of counsel with wisdom. This is a high commendation.

2 Chronicles 10:7 — And they spake unto him, saying, If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be thy servants for ever. 2 Chronicles 2:2 — And Solomon told out threescore and ten thousand men to bear burdens, and fourscore thousand to hew in the mountain, and three thousand and six hundred to oversee them. Psalms 105:19 — Until the time that his word came: the word of the LORD tried him. Until the time that his word came — The time that God’s purpose and promise of deliverance was fulfilled. This word of God profane persons call fate, fortune, … The word of the Lord tried him — That he was affliction proof, and still retained his integrity, 1 Peter 1:7 .

Psalms 116:19 — In the courts of the LORD’S house, in the midst of thee, O Jerusalem. Praise ye the LORD. In the courts of the Lord’s house — In coetu sacro; in the great congregation, Psalms 22:25 ; Psalms 35:18 , where there is a more powerful, lively, and effectual working of the Spirit, Psalms 89:7 Hebrews 4:1 1 Corinthians 14:24 .

Psalms 129:8 — Neither do they which go by say, The blessing of the LORD [be] upon you: we bless you in the name of the LORD. Neither do they which go by say, … — As they use to do to harvestmen, Ruth 2:1-23 . Christianity is no enemy to courtesy; yet in some cases saith not, God speed, 3 John 1:10 .

Psalms 78:64 — Their priests fell by the sword; and their widows made no lamentation. Their priests fell by the sword — Hophni and Phineas did, 1 Samuel 4:11 , both in one day, as had been foretold, 1 Samuel 2:34 . And their widows made no lamentation — As being themselves either killed with grief, as Phineas’s wife, or carried captive. Here were ingentia beneficia, flagitia, supplicia.

Psalms 78:70 — He chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds: He chose David also — God chooseth not as man doth, 1 Corinthians 1:26 , yet Alexander the Great advanced Abdolominus, a poor gardener, to be king in Sidon. And took him from the sheepfolds — The art of feeding cattle and the art of ruling men are sisters, saith Basil.

Numbers 24:18 — And Edom shall be a possession, Seir also shall be a possession for his enemies; and Israel shall do valiantly. And Edom shall be a possession. — This was literally fulfilled in David, 1 Chronicles 18:13 Psalms 60:8 but spiritually, and especially in Christ, Isaiah 63:1-2 , … who shall shortly subdue the Romish Edomite. 2 Thessalonians 2:8

Numbers 24:21 — And he looked on the Kenites, and took up his parable, and said, Strong is thy dwellingplace, and thou puttest thy nest in a rock. The Kenites, — i.e., The Midianites, Judges 1:16 ; Judges 4:11 mingled among the Amalekites, 1 Samuel 15:6 for whom they are, and fare the worse, as Hamath did for Damascus. Zechariah 9:2

Like unto me — 1. A man, as I Amos 2:1-16 . A prophet, and more than a prophet, the archprophet, to whom Moses must bow.

And the Lord said. — The man Christ Jesus, Joshua 5:13 that man of war. Exodus 15:3 "Jehovah is his name": "Jehovah, mighty in battle," Psalms 24:8 whose "weakness is stronger than men." 1 Corinthians 1:25
