כְּפִירָה

(chih fi' rah) Place name meaning, “queen of the lions.” It is located at khirbet Kefire about four miles west of Gibeon. One of the four cities of the Gibeonites which Joshua delivered from the coalition led by the king of Jerusalem (Joshua 9:17 ). Joshua assigned it to the tribe of Benjamin (Joshua 18:26 ). Some of its exiled inhabitants returned to the post-exilic village with Zerubbabel (Ezra 2:25 ).
