(hay' zahr-tay' muhr) Place name meaning, “grave dump with palms.” Home of Amorites who fought eastern coalition led by Chedorlaomer (Genesis 14:7 ). Edom (NIV; TEV; NRSV; REB following one Hebrew manuscript; most manuscripts and early translations read, “Aram,” meaning Syria, as read by NAS; KSV). captured the city and then attacked Jehoshaphat of Judah (873-848 B.C.), the text noting that Hazazon-tamar was another name for Engedi (2 Chronicles 20:2 ). See Engedi . Some Bible students think Hazazon-tamar was actually located six miles north of Engedi at wadi Hasasa, while others point to Tamar in southern Judah, Kasr Ejuniyeh or ain Kusb, twenty miles southwest of the Dead Sea.
