Holman Bible Dictionary
(za' uh nan neem) Place name of uncertain meaning. Town on northeastern corner of tribal allotment of Naphtali near Kadesh (Joshua 19:33
; Judges 4:11
). The “plain of Zaanaim” (Judges 4:11
KJV) is literally translated, “great tree in Zaanannim” (NIV) or “oak in Zaanannim” (NAS; note transliterations of REB, NRSV). This probably indicates a “sacred tree” associated with a worship center. See Elon
