Brother-in-law of Aaron ( Exodus 6:23 ) descendant in the 5th generation from Judah ( 1 Chronicles 2:10 f.) and prince of the tribe of Judah ( Numbers 1:7; Numbers 2:3; Numbers 7:12; Numbers 7:17; Numbers 10:14 ) mentioned as one of the ancestors of David ( Ruth 4:20; Ruth 4:1 Cf. Ruth 2:10 f.), and of Christ ( Matthew 1:4 , Luke 3:32 ).
