Assistant at the Pontifical Throne
Prelate belonging to the papal chapel, who, in cope and miter, stands near the throne of the pope at solemn functions. All patriarchs belong by their office to this body, others are specially appointed by the pope. The throne-assistants rank next after the cardinals and are Counts of the Apostolic Palace.
