Carroll, Charles, of Carrollton (1737-1832) Statesman, born Annapolis, Maryland; died Doughoregan Manor, near Baltimore, Maryland. After studying at Catholic colleges abroad, he returned to America in 1156 and was given the estate of Carrollton. He aggressively defended the rights of the colonies, was a member of the Maryland Convention of 1775, served on a delegation from the Continental Congress to Canada in 1776, and was a member of the Continental Congress and signer of the Declaration of Independence. He assisted in the drawing up of the Constitution of Maryland and was a member of the Maryland Senate and the United States Senate.
