Duke of Mayenne, brother of the Henri Guise; born 1554; died Soissons, France, 1611. He fought against the Turks, and subsequently took part in the fourth, sixth, and seventh Huguenot wars. After his brother's assassination he led the Catholics against Henry III and Henry of Navarre, but was forced to yield. Henry of Navarre embraced Catholicism, 1593, Charles made peace with him, 1596, and dissolved the League.
