Friday after Ash Wednesday, instituted at Paris, 1239, when Saint Louis brought back a relic of the Crown, later deposited in the Royal Chapel. Here the feast was kept on August 11, until it was adopted as a double-major at Rome, 1831, and the present day selected. It is not a universal feast, the Mass and Office being appendices of the Missal.
