Founder and reorganizer of religious congregations, born Beignon, France, 1767; died Saint Laurent-sur-Sevre, France, 1842. Educated at Saint Malo, he was ordained during the Revolution, and was later named Vicar-General of Vannes. He founded the Sisters of Christian Teaching and Nursing of Saint Gildas (1807) and the Brothers of Saint Francis of Assisi called "farming brothers" (1841), and he reorganized the Company of Mary (1821) and the Brothers of Saint Gabriel (1835). He held, moreover, at different periods, the office of superior general of the Missionaries of the Holy Ghost, the Daughters of Wisdom, and the Saint Gabriel Brothers.
