Collections of excerpts from the works of the Fathers and other ecclesiastical writers of the early period. Dogmatic florilegia were designed to exhibit the teaching of the Fathers on some specific doctrine. Ascetical or ethical florilegia were excerpts from Scripture and the Fathers on such topics as virtues, vices, discipline, etc.
