(1600-1652) Jesuit missionary, born Abbeville, France; died Canada. His career as a missionary was distinguished by an ardent desire for suffering, and his converts were recognized by an unusual spirit of faith. He was martyred by the Iroquois. His writings include an account of the captivity and tortures of Blessed Isaac Jogues.
