Architect, grand-nephew of Nicholas Francois Mansard, born Paris, France, 1646; died Marly, 1708. Combining the style of his uncle with extreme classical adaptations, he achieved Barocco effects and stressed elegance rather than grandeur. He completed the Chateau of Versailles with Leveau and designed the Grand Trianon and Colonnades. His best work is the church of the Invalides, Paris, modeled upon Saint Peter's in Rome.
