The decision rendered in a famous ecclesiastical suit in the Church of England, November 21, 1890, by Edward Benson, Archbishop of Canterbury in the case against Edward King, Bishop of Lincoln. The bishop was accused of having introduced into the celebration of Holy Communion certain alleged illegal practises and it was these which were, in fact, on trial. There were eight counts in thc accusation and all of them pertained to reintroduction of Catholic ceremonies into the service. Some were affirmed to be permitted, others were denied. The judgment was important because it decided certain points of ritual and because it established the right of the Archbishop of Canterbury alone to try one of his suffragans for alleged offenses.
