Priest and writer. Born in 1801 in Annapolis, Maryland; died in 1866 in Brooklyn, New York. He was educated at Georgetown College, Washington, DC, entered the Society of Jesus, and was ordained in 1825. He became the first Catholic chaplain to the United States Senate on December 11, 1832. He wrote several works in prose and verse, and was a distinguished lecturer and preacher.
