Booth

Holman Bible Dictionary

A temporary shelter constructed for cattle (Genesis 33:17 ) and people (Jonah 4:5 ), especially for soldiers on the battlefield (2 Samuel 11:11; 1Kings 20:12,1 Kings 20:16 ). Israel after an invasion is compared to a deserted booth in a vineyard (Isaiah 1:8 ). The booth is also used as a symbol of that which is flimsy and impermanent (Job 27:18 ). The booths used at the Feast of Booths were made of twigs woven together (Leviticus 23:40-43; Nehemiah 8:15 ).
