Holman Bible Dictionary
At Exodus 7:19; Exodus 8:5 , pond renders the Hebrew agam meaning, “marsh” or “muddy pool.” The term is usually translated pool. The Hebrew underlying “ponds for fish” ( Isaiah 19:10 ) is rendered grieved (in soul) or sick at heart by modern translations, based on a Hebrew homonym apparently occurring only in this passage.
