Torch
Holman Bible Dictionary
Long pole with cloths dipped in oil wrapped around one end used as a light. The Greek lampas is generally rendered torch (John 18:3; Revelation 4:5; Revelation 8:10 ), unless the context suggests the translation “lamp” (Acts 20:8 ). The lamps of the wise and foolish virgins (Matthew 25:1-8 ) were perhaps torches.
