- Son of Shaphan the scribe. It was in Gemariah's chamber that Baruch read to the people the prophecy of Jeremiah (Jeremiah 36:10-12). Gemariah was one of the princes who entreated King Jehoiakim not to destroy the roll taken from Baruch (Jeremiah 36:10-12,25).
- Son of Hilkiah; sent by Zedekiah to Nebuchadnezzar, bearing at the same time a letter from Jeremiah to the captive Jews (Jeremiah 29:1,3).
