their hearts

’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ,

אֲבִימֶ֔לֶךְ

[is] our brother

And they gave

way·yit·tə·nū-

וַיִּתְּנוּ־

[pieces] of silver

from the house

of Baal-berith

וַיִּשְׂכֹּ֨ר

with which Abimelech

’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ,

אֲבִימֶ֗לֶךְ

ū·p̄ō·ḥă·zîm,

וּפֹ֣חֲזִ֔ים

and that followed

way·yê·lə·ḵū

of his father

‘ā·p̄ə·rā·ṯāh,

way·ya·hă·rōḡ

וַֽיַּהֲרֹ֞ג

his brothers

of Jerubbaal

yə·rub·ba·‘al

[being] seventy

and was left

way·yiw·wā·ṯêr

וַיִּוָּתֵ֞ר

notwithstanding yet Jotham

of Jerubbaal

yə·rub·ba·‘al

he hid himself

And gathered together

way·yê·’ā·sə·p̄ū

וַיֵּאָ֨סְפ֜וּ

all the house

way·yê·lə·ḵū,

וַיֵּ֣לְכ֔וּ

way·yam·lî·ḵū

וַיַּמְלִ֥יכוּ

’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ

אֲבִימֶ֖לֶךְ

of the pillar

when they told [it]

way·yag·gi·ḏū

וַיַּגִּ֣דוּ

lə·yō·w·ṯām,

way·ya·‘ă·mōḏ

וַֽיַּעֲמֹד֙

and lifted up

and may Listen

and they said

way·yō·mə·rū

וַיֹּאמְר֥וּ

to the olive

[mə·lō·w·ḵāh

But the olive tree

Should I leave

he·ḥo·ḏal·tî

הֶחֳדַ֙לְתִּי֙

by me they honor

yə·ḵab·bə·ḏū

wa·’ă·nā·šîm;

וַאֲנָשִׁ֑ים

wə·hā·laḵ·tî,

וְהָ֣לַכְתִּ֔י

way·yō·mə·rū

וַיֹּאמְר֥וּ

lat·tə·’ê·nāh;

But the fig tree

hat·tə·’ê·nāh,

Should I forsake

he·ḥo·ḏal·tî

הֶחֳדַ֙לְתִּי֙

my sweetness

תְּנוּבָתִ֖י

haṭ·ṭō·w·ḇāh;

wə·hā·laḵ·tî,

וְהָ֣לַכְתִּ֔י

way·yō·mə·rū

וַיֹּאמְר֥וּ

lag·gā·p̄en;

hag·ge·p̄en,

Should I leave

he·ḥo·ḏal·tî

הֶחֳדַ֙לְתִּי֙

tî·rō·wō·šî,

תִּ֣ירוֹשִׁ֔י

ham·śam·mê·aḥ

הַֽמְשַׂמֵּ֥חַ

wa·’ă·nā·šîm;

וַאֲנָשִׁ֑ים

wə·hā·laḵ·tî,

וְהָ֣לַכְתִּ֔י

way·yō·mə·rū

וַיֹּאמְר֥וּ

put your trust

hal·lə·ḇā·nō·wn.

הַלְּבָנֽוֹן׃

and sincerely

you have done

wat·tam·lî·ḵū

וַתַּמְלִ֖יכוּ

’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ;

אֲבִימֶ֑לֶךְ

be better you

yə·rub·ba·‘al

with him as he deserved

of his hands

and adventured

וַיַּשְׁלֵ֤ךְ

and delivered

out of the hand

are risen up

of my father

and have slain

wat·ta·har·ḡū

וַתַּהַרְג֧וּ

wat·tam·lî·ḵū

וַתַּמְלִ֜יכוּ

have made Abimelech

’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ

אֲבִימֶ֤לֶךְ

of his maidservant

your brother ;

and sincerely

you then have dealt

yə·rub·ba·‘al

[then] rejoice

in Abimelech

ba·’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ,

בַּאֲבִימֶ֔לֶךְ

mê·’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ,

מֵאֲבִימֶ֔לֶךְ

and come out

from the men

mib·ba·‘ă·lê

and from the house

’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ.

אֲבִימֶֽלֶךְ׃

And ran away

of Abimelech

’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ

אֲבִימֶ֥לֶךְ

when had reigned

’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ

אֲבִימֶ֛לֶךְ

וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח

’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ,

אֲבִימֶ֔לֶךְ

and dealt treacherously

way·yiḇ·gə·ḏū

וַיִּבְגְּד֥וּ

with Abimelech

ba·’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ.

בַּאֲבִימֶֽלֶךְ׃

That the cruelty

[done] to the seventy

of Jerubbaal

yə·rub·bā·‘al;

and their blood

’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ

אֲבִימֶ֤לֶךְ

their brother

strengthened

of his brothers

way·yā·śî·mū

וַיָּשִׂ֣ימוּ

liers in wait

mə·’ā·rə·ḇîm,

of the mountains

and they robbed

way·yiḡ·zə·lū,

וַיִּגְזְל֗וּ

by them along the road

and it was told

to Abimelech

la·’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ.

לַאֲבִימֶֽלֶךְ׃

and with his brothers

and went over

way·ya·‘aḇ·rū

וַיַּעַבְר֖וּ

into Shechem

and put their confidence

way·yiḇ·ṭə·ḥū-

וַיִּבְטְחוּ־

And they went out

way·yê·ṣə·’ū

into the fields

and gathered

way·yiḇ·ṣə·rū

וַֽיִּבְצְר֤וּ

their vineyards

כַּרְמֵיהֶם֙

way·yiḏ·rə·ḵū,

וַֽיִּדְרְכ֔וּ

[the grapes] and made

way·ya·‘ă·śū

וַֽיַּעֲשׂ֖וּ

and went into

way·yā·ḇō·’ū

וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙

into the house

of their god

’ĕlō·hê·hem,

אֱ‍ֽלֹֽהֵיהֶ֔ם

way·yō·ḵə·lū

וַיֹּֽאכְלוּ֙

וַיִּשְׁתּ֔וּ

וַֽיְקַלְל֖וּ

’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ.

אֲבִימֶֽלֶךְ׃

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ׀

[is] Abimelech

’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ

אֲבִימֶ֤לֶךְ

[is] Shechem

we should serve

na·‘aḇ·ḏen·nū,

נַעַבְדֶ֔נּוּ

[he] the son

of Jerubbaal

yə·rub·ba·‘al

na·‘aḇ·ḏen·nū

נַעַבְדֶ֥נּוּ

’ă·nā·ḥə·nū.

were under my hand

then would I remove

wə·’ā·sî·rāh

’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ;

אֲבִימֶ֑לֶךְ

to Abimelech

la·’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ,

לַאֲבִימֶ֔לֶךְ

and come out

way·yiš·ma‘,

וַיִּשְׁמַ֗ע

and was kindled

וַיִּשְׁלַ֧ח

’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ

אֲבִימֶ֖לֶךְ

bə·ṯā·rə·māh

and his brothers

they fortify

therefore up

that the people

and lie in wait

in the field

בַּשָּׂדֶֽה׃

And it shall be

In the morning

as soon as the sun

you shall rise early

תַּשְׁכִּ֖ים

ū·p̄ā·šaṭ·tā

וּפָשַׁטְתָּ֣

[when] and the people

[is] him come out

you then may you do

you shall find

’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ

אֲבִימֶ֛לֶךְ

and they laid wait

way·ye·’er·ḇū

וַיֶּאֶרְב֣וּ

And went out

way·ya·‘ă·mōḏ

in the entering

’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ

אֲבִימֶ֛לֶךְ

that the people

lying in wait

ham·ma’·rāḇ.

הַמַּאְרָֽב׃

from the tops

of the mountains

of the mountains him

kā·’ă·nā·šîm.

כָּאֲנָשִֽׁים׃

of the diviner

mə·‘ō·wn·nîm.

מְעוֹנְנִֽים׃

[is] Abimelech

’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ

אֲבִימֶ֖לֶךְ

we should serve

na·‘aḇ·ḏen·nū;

נַעַבְדֶ֑נּוּ

[is] the people

you have despised

wə·hil·lā·ḥem

And went out

way·yil·lā·ḥem

וַיִּלָּ֖חֶם

with Abimelech

ba·’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ.

בַּאֲבִימֶֽלֶךְ׃

way·yir·də·p̄ê·hū

וַיִּרְדְּפֵ֣הוּ

Abimelech him

’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ,

אֲבִימֶ֔לֶךְ

and were overthrown

way·yip·pə·lū

וַֽיִּפְּל֛וּ

[even] the entering

’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ

אֲבִימֶ֖לֶךְ

and thrust out

his brothers

that they should not dwell

And it came to pass

on the next day

mim·mā·ḥo·rāṯ,

מִֽמָּחֳרָ֔ת

that went out

into the field

and they told

way·yag·gi·ḏū

וַיַּגִּ֖דוּ

to Abimelech

la·’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ.

לַאֲבִימֶֽלֶךְ׃

and divided them

way·ye·ḥĕ·ṣêm

וַֽיֶּחֱצֵם֙

לִשְׁלֹשָׁ֣ה

and laid wait

way·ye·’ĕ·rōḇ

in the field

the people [were]

and he rose up

way·yak·kêm.

and Abimelech

wa·’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ,

וַאֲבִימֶ֗לֶךְ

that the company

wə·hā·rā·šîm

וְהָרָאשִׁים֙

rushed forward

way·ya·‘am·ḏū,

וַיַּ֣עַמְד֔וּ

in the entering

[other] companies

הָֽרָאשִׁ֗ים

in the fields

way·yak·kūm.

וַיַּכּֽוּם׃

And Abimelech

wa·’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ

וַאֲבִימֶ֜לֶךְ

against the city

וַיִּלְכֹּד֙

and beat down

way·yiz·rā·‘e·hā

וַיִּזְרָעֶ֖הָ

it with salt

way·yiš·mə·‘ū,

וַֽיִּשְׁמְע֔וּ

of the tower

[that] they entered

way·yā·ḇō·’ū

of the temple

And it was told

la·’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ;

לַאֲבִימֶ֑לֶךְ

were gathered together

hiṯ·qab·bə·ṣū,

הִֽתְקַבְּצ֔וּ

of the tower

And got him up

’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ

אֲבִימֶ֜לֶךְ

and Abimelech

’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ

אֲבִימֶ֨לֶךְ

haq·qar·dum·mō·wṯ

הַקַּרְדֻּמּ֜וֹת

and cut down

from the trees

way·yiś·śā·’e·hā,

וַיִּ֨שָּׂאֶ֔הָ

it and laid [it]

his shoulder

you have seen me

and cut down

way·yiḵ·rə·ṯū

וַיִּכְרְת֨וּ

and followed

way·yê·lə·ḵū

וַיֵּ֨לְכ֜וּ

’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ

אֲבִימֶ֙לֶךְ֙

way·yā·śî·mū

וַיָּשִׂ֣ימוּ

[them] the hold

haṣ·ṣə·rî·aḥ,

way·yaṣ·ṣî·ṯū

וַיַּצִּ֧יתוּ

haṣ·ṣə·rî·aḥ

way·yā·mu·ṯū

of the tower

about a thousand

’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ

אֲבִימֶ֖לֶךְ

against Thebez

way·yil·kə·ḏāh.

וַֽיִּלְכְּדָֽהּ׃

there was a strong

But there was

in the center

way·yā·nu·sū

hā·’ă·nā·šîm

הָאֲנָשִׁ֣ים

wə·han·nā·šîm,

וְהַנָּשִׁ֗ים

way·yis·gə·rū

וַֽיִּסְגְּר֖וּ

and got them up

way·ya·‘ă·lū

וַֽיַּעֲל֖וּ

of the tower

ham·miḡ·dāl.

הַמִּגְדָּֽל׃

’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ

אֲבִימֶ֙לֶךְ֙

ham·miḡ·dāl,

הַמִּגְדָּ֔ל

way·yil·lā·ḥem

וַיִּלָּ֖חֶם

and went hard

of the tower

הַמִּגְדָּ֖ל

lə·śā·rə·p̄ōw

it with fire

וַתַּשְׁלֵ֞ךְ

of a millstone

of on Abimelech

’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ;

אֲבִימֶ֑לֶךְ

and all to broke

gul·gā·lə·tōw.

גֻּלְגָּלְתּֽוֹ׃

Then he called

the young man

that slay me

ū·mō·wṯ·ṯê·nî,

וּמ֣וֹתְתֵ֔נִי

hă·rā·ḡā·ṯə·hū;

הֲרָגָ֑תְהוּ

and thrust him through him

way·yiḏ·qə·rê·hū

וַיִּדְקְרֵ֥הוּ

And his young man

that Abimelech

’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ;

אֲבִימֶ֑לֶךְ

and they departed

way·yê·lə·ḵū

and rendered

the wickedness

of Abimelech

’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ;

אֲבִימֶ֑לֶךְ

to his father

on their heads

and them came

of Jerubbaal

yə·rub·bā·‘al.
