lə·p̄ā·ne·ḵā.

to your throat

bə·lō·‘e·ḵā;

given to appetite

of his dainties

lə·maṭ·‘am·mō·w·ṯāw;

לְמַטְעַמּוֹתָ֑יו

For it is deceptive

lə·ha·‘ă·šîr;

לְֽהַעֲשִׁ֑יר

from your consideration

mib·bî·nā·ṯə·ḵā

מִֽבִּינָתְךָ֥

will you set

and on that which is not

wə·’ê·nen·nū

וְֽאֵ֫ינֶ֥נּוּ

[riches] on that which is not? for [riches] certainly

themselves wings

ḵə·nā·p̄a·yim;

they fly away

toward heaven

haš·šā·mā·yim.

הַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃

[him who has] of an evil

(תִּ֝תְאָ֗יו

his dainty meats

lə·maṭ·‘am·mō·ṯāw.

לְמַטְעַמֹּתָֽיו׃

in his heart

bə·nap̄·šōw,

בְּנַפְשׁ֗וֹ

but his heart

[which] you have eaten

shall you vomit up

ṯə·qî·’en·nāh;

תְקִיאֶ֑נָּה

wə·ši·ḥa·tā,

וְ֝שִׁחַ֗תָּ

han·nə·‘î·mîm.

הַנְּעִימִֽים׃

in the hearing

he will despise

of your words

and into the fields

of the fatherless

yə·ṯō·w·mîm,

their redeemer

to discipline

and your ears

wə·’ā·zə·ne·ḵā,

וְ֝אָזְנֶ֗ךָ

of knowledge

from the child

[if] you beat him

with the staff

with the staff

and his soul

wə·nap̄·šōw,

וְ֝נַפְשׁ֗וֹ

miš·šə·’ō·wl

shall deliver

shall rejoice

and shall rejoice

wə·ṯa‘·lō·zə·nāh

וְתַעְלֹ֥זְנָה

ḵil·yō·w·ṯāy;

when your lips

שְׂ֝פָתֶ֗יךָ

right things

מֵישָׁרִֽים׃

ba·ḥaṭ·ṭā·’îm;

בַּֽחַטָּאִ֑ים

[be thou] in the fear

and your expectation

wə·ṯiq·wā·ṯə·ḵā,

וְ֝תִקְוָתְךָ֗

do be cut off

do be with heavy

ḇə·sō·ḇə·’ê-

among riotous eaters

the drunkard

and the glutton

shall come to poverty

and [a man] with rags

ū·qə·rā·‘îm,

וּ֝קְרָעִ֗ים

shall clothe

תַּלְבִּ֥ישׁ

to your father

yə·lā·ḏe·ḵā;

do you and despise

[also] wisdom

and instruction

and understanding

shall greatly rejoice

shall greatly rejoice

of the righteous

he who begets

(wə·yō·w·lêḏ

[wə·yiś·maḥ-

[וְיִשְׂמַח־

shall have joy

[child] shall have joy

shall be glad

and your mother

wə·’im·me·ḵā;

and you shall rejoice

she that bore

yō·w·laḏ·te·ḵā.

יֽוֹלַדְתֶּֽךָ׃

and let your eyes

wə·‘ê·ne·ḵā,

וְ֝עֵינֶ֗יךָ

(tiṣ·ṣō·rə·nāh

(תִּצֹּֽרְנָה

[is] women a narrow

nā·ḵə·rî·yāh.

נָכְרִיָּֽה׃

[for] as a prey

lies in wait

and the transgressors

ū·ḇō·wḡ·ḏîm,

וּ֝בוֹגְדִ֗ים

[mi·ḏō·w·nîm

has contentions

(מִדְיָנִ֨ים

has babbling

outside cause

they who stay long

lam·’a·ḥă·rîm

לַֽמְאַחֲרִ֥ים

יִתְאַ֫דָּ֥ם

[when] it moves itself

yiṯ·hal·lêḵ,

יִ֝תְהַלֵּ֗ךְ

bə·mê·šā·rîm.

בְּמֵישָׁרִֽים׃

’a·ḥă·rî·ṯōw

like a serpent

and like an adder

ū·ḵə·ṣip̄·‘ō·nî

וּֽכְצִפְעֹנִ֥י

shall behold

strange women

and your heart

wə·lib·bə·ḵā,

perverse things

tah·pu·ḵō·wṯ.

תַּהְפֻּכֽוֹת׃

as he who lies down

in the middle

or as he who lies

ū·ḵə·šō·ḵêḇ,

וּ֝כְשֹׁכֵ֗ב

They have stricken me

do [shalt you say and] sick

they have beaten

hă·lā·mū·nî,

יָ֫דָ֥עְתִּי

shall I awake

’ă·ḇaq·šen·nū

אֲבַקְשֶׁ֥נּוּ
