Vocabulary of the Greek NT

For οἰκητήριον, ";dwelling-place,"; ";habitation,"; as in Judges 1:6, cf. BGU IV. 1167.33 (B.C. 12) ἐν τῇ τετραγώ (νῳ) στοᾷ οἰκητηρίο (υ), P Oxy II. 281.11 (A.D. 20–50), complaint against a husband—ἐγὼ μὲν οὖν ἐπιδεξαμένη αὐτὸν εἰς τὰ τῶν γονέων μου οἰκητήρια λειτὸν παντελῶς ὄντα, ";as he was destitute of means I received him into my parents’ house"; (Edd.). In P Tor II. 3.23 (B.C. 127) οἱ ἐνκαλούμενοι ἐμβατεύσαντες εἰς σημαινομένην οἰκίαν καὶ περιοικοδομήσαντες ἑαυτοῖς οἰκητήρια ἐνοικοῦσιν βιαίως, the editor understands by οἰκητήρια, ";apartments,"; rather than a whole house : cf. the important inscription of B.C. 76–5, cited by Plaumann Ptolemais, p. 35, where we read of a shrine of Isis (Ἰσιδεῖον), built to the south of Ptolemais—σῦν τοῖς περὶ αὐτὸ κατῳκοδομημένοις οἰκητηρίοις. For οἰκήτωρ, ";inhabitant,"; see P Lond 121.351 (iii/A.D.) (= I. P. 95).
