";poor"; (Luke 21:2), may be chronicled as occurring in BGU IV. 1024viii. 12 (end of iv/A.D.) : the old woman is described by the judge as πενιχρὰ καὶ πρεσβύτης, and further as one ἥτις διὰ τὴν συνέχουσαν αὐτὴν πενίαν τὴν ἑαυτῆς [θυγ ]ατέρα [[ν ]] τῆς σωφροσύνης ἀπεστέρη [σεν. In a petition addressed to the epimeletes, P Petr III. 36 (a).6 (Ptol.), a prisoner writes—μεγάλη η ̣̔ ἀνάγκη ἐστιν καὶ τὸ πενιχρὸν εἶναι καὶ ὁρᾶν [τ ]ὸν θάνατον ὑποκείμενον [ἐν ] τῆι φυλακῆι.
